Your baby is now long as ear of corn. His length is about 11.81inches and his weight 1.32lb. Baby’s nostrils are opening now for practicing breathing. But he will inhale the amniotic fluid instead of air.

Development

You may have observe that baby from now is going to be very busy for next few weeks. His brain is growing and his taste buds are also developing this week.

Lungs:

Your baby’s lungs are developing each day of this week. They start making a substance called surfactant, which helps in keeping your tiny air sacs in the lungs called “alveoli” open.

Breathing:

Baby’s starts practicing breathing in your womb through his nostrils an by moving chest up and down, exhaling amniotic fluid.

Fat deposits:

During this week, your baby’s skin is still thin and transparent, but in little while it will change. Baby’s body shortly starts to get fat in and gained weight this week. This is due to growing muscles, organs, bones and fat. The skin will become less transparent as the fat set down in the body.

Inner ear:

Baby’s vestibular system is developing this week. This is the tiny system in our inner ear which helps us to maintain our balance. So your baby is now able to tell you if they are right side up or upside down.

White blood cells:

Your baby begin to develop the white blood cells which will help them to make strong fight against the infections and other diseases.

Symptoms in 24 Weeks Pregnancy

Tender or Red gums:

Your gums become more sensitive than before as it is influenced by pregnancy hormones. To avoid this issue, try to brush twice a daily and floss too.

Leg cramps:

Cramps in the muscles are common in the second trimester of your pregnancy. And specially which interfere and mess with your sleep.

o Things to consider:
You can many changes during your pregnancy and it is not good idea to ignore it. Here for example constipation. It is not a thing to ignore but to cure as soon as possible.

It may interfere with your pregnancy and can cause chronic back pains and other issues. So keep your bathrooms habits regularly.
Drink sufficient amount of water and other green leafy vegetables.

o Gestational Diabetes Test:
Between 24 to 28 weeks, you will have glucose screening test to check if you have sign of gestational diabetes (a condition that causes high blood sugar in pregnant woman).

Normally, there are not any noticeable symptoms, so it is important to have test of it.
Early treatment can have control over it and can prevent complications in your pregnancy such preterm labor and high birth weight.

Usually there are two main gestational diabetes tests:

• Glucose challenge test
• Glucose tolerance test

Definitely you can have any of these tests and may be both. Here some details for these.
• Glucose challenge test:

This is just a screening test, so consult with your doctor if you have any signs of gestational diabetes. In this you take a sweet Gatorade like drink called glucola, then wait for an hour.

After that blood is drawn and checks on the reading material. If blood sugar level is high, it can be sign of gestational diabetes.

• Glucose Tolerance Test:
This is the follow up test that can diagnose gestational diabetes, but some of the women give this test at initial level. For proceeding with this test, you have to fast for 8 hours before the test.

You have to give your blood when you just reached there, then after 1 hour, 2 hours and at last 3 hours. That is why most often it is called the 3 hours glucose test.

Hence 4 blood draws and 11 hours of without eating.
If you have two or more blood samples with high level of glucose, you will be diagnosed with the gestational diabetes.
